Touriga Nacional Tinto by Casa Américo. A Red That Speaks of Where It Comes From
Share
The Dão region sits high in central Portugal, on ancient granite soils, surrounded by pine and eucalyptus forests. It's a place that leaves its mark on the wines, and Casa Américo's Touriga Nacional Tinto is a good example of exactly that.
The estate
Casa Américo is a family estate near Serra da Estrela, in the heart of the Dão. You may recognise the name from an earlier post about their Sonante. Yes, this is the same team, the same careful approach. They farm with a clear intention: let the vineyard speak, and don't get in the way. No heavy oak, no over-extraction. Just wines that feel honest and true to the place they come from.
What's in the glass
Touriga Nacional is Portugal's most celebrated red grape, and in the Dão it takes on a particular elegance - brighter, fresher, and more structured than you might expect. This wine opens with red berries and a soft floral lift, with a little spice in the background and a quiet mineral edge that comes straight from those granite soils. On the palate it's medium-bodied and fresh, with enough structure to hold your attention without ever feeling heavy or demanding.

A note for trade
This is a wine that works well as an introduction to Portuguese reds, as a food-friendly option across a range of dishes, or as a gift bottle with a genuine story behind it. Its profile is approachable without being simple, and the Dão - still underappreciated relative to its quality - gives it a point of difference worth talking about.
