Aragonez, Trincadeira & Alicante Bouschet. Opaque, brooding red. The nose reveals opulent yet lifted aromas of determinedly dark, ripe fruits (blackberry, plum, cassis, wild currants) alongside vanillin, toasty oak, sweet spice, leather, tobacco, cocoa and pencil shaving. A succulent mid-palate reveals additional layers of bitter chocolate, liquorice, and torrefaction plus hints of roasted meat. Full, structured, texturally concentrated and aromatically complex, on fine grained tannins, with warmth and excellent length. This is bold, yet surprisingly easy drinking. Decant 2 hours ahead for best aromatic expression. Pairing: Red meats, spicy cuisine, Cantonese BBQ pork, stews, rich vegetable dishes
